During the constructive discussion, possibilities for strengthening academic and institutional cooperation between universities in BiH and universities in the Republic of Croatia were considered. Special emphasis was placed on the exchange of knowledge in the field of minority rights protection, with a focus on the Roma community.

Professor Drino pointed out that there are increasingly pronounced initiatives and expert discussions in Europe regarding the further improvement of the status of Roma as a minority community in Europe. In this context, it was emphasized that Roma represent a transnational people – the largest ethnic minority in Europe – without a home state, whose historical origin dates back to northwestern India, from where they migrated many centuries ago. Today, they are an equal part of European societies, with constant efforts by institutions to strengthen their inclusion and the protection of their rights.

World Roma Day – April 8th is celebrated in memory of the World Roma Congress held in London in 1971, when key decisions were made regarding the Roma flag, the anthem "Gelem, Gelem", and the standardization of the Roma language, which laid the foundations for the modern identity of the Roma people. According to relevant international estimates, Roma represent one of the largest and most vulnerable minority groups in Europe.

The meeting between Ambassador Kovačević Bajtal and Professor Drino confirms the importance of regional cooperation and continuous work on strengthening the rights and status of Roma, as well as the role of the academic community in building an inclusive and equal society.
